SPOTLIGHT

Mike Jaskiewicz

This month MiDarts is turning the spotlight on Flint Darts player Mike Jaskiewicz. Mike began playing 17 years ago when his mother asked him if he wanted to play on a Saturday. He joined the Little Flights, a youth league hosted by the Greater Flint Dart Association. Mike then moved to playing on the GFDA with Michele and Kory Nichols, and Al Pratt.

2015 and 2106 were good years for Mike, seeing him win his division of the Michigan State Cricket soft tip singles in 2015, and coming back to take the 01 title the next year. As with any darts player, there are those disappointing times as well. Mike recalled a time when he had a chance to complete one his best runs ever. It was at the 2011 Tri Cotta open when he was looking at 40 after 13 darts only to see his opponent come from more than 200 points behind and snatch the victory.

When asked why he chose darts Mike quickly answered “I like the competitive aspect and how there is always room for improvement”. Some of Mike’s darting influences have been Bob Whitehead, and National Darts Hall of Fame members, Kevin Killian and Paul Metevier. If Mike were to give any advice to new players it would be simply “Don’t give up”.

Mike uses 16.5 gram Phil Taylor Purist 2s for both steel and soft tip.
