A New Era is Dawning Pt 2

A while ago I wrote an article stating that Phil Taylor could possibly drop out of the top 10 for the first time ever. Well....opps. Looks like the reports of his demise have been greatly exaggerated. Today The Power will face 2 time world champion Adrian Lewis in the semi-finals of the BetVictor World Matchplay. Phil took advantage of missed doubles from Micheal van Gerwen to dismantle the world number one 16-6. MVG looked out of sorts the entire match, while Phil looked relaxed and comfortable. Phil has often said that the matchplay is his favorite tournament and he loves playing in Blackpool. Today's tie should be a good one.

The other side of the draw sees Super Chin Daryl Gurney facing off against Peter "Snakebite" Wright. Gurney has been impressive over the last month, finishing second in the Las Vegas World series of Darts, losing to MVG. He had a spectacular comeback against Gary Anderson in Vegas and followed that up by defeating Anderson again in the matchplay and then taking out Mensur Suljović.

Wright has been having a great year, and looks to continue that run today. Snakebite won his first Televised PDC title earlier this year when he claimed the UK open championship. He looks to take home his second this Sunday, but will have to get through Super Chin first.

Play starts 2pm EST.

Spotlight

JJ Langs Dart Bar

spotlight

For the month of August, the MiDarts spotlight falls on JJ Langs Dart Bar. Michelle and Jim Hillaker started in 2004 with steel tip boards. In 2008 they saw an opportunity to grow with the expansion of soft tip darts in the area. They joined the Advanced Coin dart league and have since become one of the most popular dart bars in the Genesee County area. They have hosted as many as 23 league teams at one time, including several online/remote leagues. Michelle is exceptionally proud to have played a part in getting the Monday Women only league started. During the full dart season there are leagues every night of the week except Saturday.

JJs runs a luck-of-the-draw on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month, even in the summer. They hold a triple shoot, and offer a chance to win JJ dollars. JJ dollars can be won by shooting a Hat Trick (women only), High Ton, White Horse, or 9 mark, while playing in the LOD or during league play.

The bar itself is set up great for darts. They have 4 boards on a raised stage sectioned off from the rest of the bar, and one board on the opposite wall from these. Most of these are connected for online play. The service is always friendly and accommodating. All of their staff play in at least one league, so they understand the game and the players.

JJs is really a family when it comes to darts, Michelle, Jim, their daughter Lauren, their son Branden, and Jim’s brother Rick all play in the leagues and LODs.

The competition at JJs is good too. Michelle placed 2nd in Ladies Singles Cricket at the 2017 state tournament while Branden also took 2nd on the men’s side. Team JJs, Jim Hillakar, Branden Hillakar, Jim Hall, and Derek Mayfield placed 1st in the 4-person team event. The win qualified the team for a trip to Las Vegas to compete against teams from all over the country.

JJs is located at G5412 N Dort Hwy in Flint. You can find a game almost any time. Stop in for drink and a game, you won’t be disappointed.
